Have You Taken A Spiritual Gifts Assessment?
Jan 31, 2020
A spiritual gifts assessment was given to me at church last week, and I was cautious about taking it. I decided to read scripture that backed up this idea of a “spiritual gifts assessment” and eventually felt led by God to respond with an open mind and an open heart, ready and willing to learn and grow. I wrote briefly about spiritual gifts in an older post here but I want to dive deeper today, so that you can understand more about your spiritual gifts.
Here are the scriptures I meditated on before taking the spiritual gifts assessment:
1 Peter 4:10
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.
Jeremiah 1:5
Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you.
Romans 12: 6-8
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
1 Corinthians 12:1
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed.
Sometimes I confuse skill sets with spiritual gifts. However, after carefully examining my spiritual gifts assessment results, I realized that these rare gifts are not learned behaviors or perfected skills. These gifts are pre-existing things God placed inside of me (and you) to use for his glory.
For instance, the spiritual gift of “ADMINISTRATION” was not a high scoring spiritual gift for me. (I got a 9 out of 15). Sure, I’ve learned the skill of administration over time, but if I serve in the church or community in an administrative role, I would be taking the place of someone else better suited for the job at hand. Someone who God gave a 15 out of 15! Plus, I would also feel unfulfilled and outside of my wheelhouse.
I made the below spiritual gifts assessment for you. Print these out or grab a notebook and a pen or pin them for later tonight. Take the assessment at a snail’s pace, thoughtfully reading each word, and being authentic. Do not fluff or lie to yourself to try to shift your results. You need to know which spiritual gifts you do not have and which ones you do have.
Step 1:
At the end of each sentence, write a number (1= almost never, 2= seldom, 3= sometimes, 4= frequently, 5= almost always).
Now that you’ve written 66 numbers, you can move on to…
Step 2:
Group your first three sentence scores together to get a totaled number (it will be somewhere between 3 and 15).
Here’s an example:
- I like organizing services and events. 3
- I am passionate about managing details. 2
- Creating a task list is easy and enjoyable to me. 4
My total = 9.
Do this for every group of three sentences (in order down the list) until you’re done. You should have 22 totaled numbers.
Step 3:
Let’s figure out your spiritual gifts (look at the ones you scored a 14 or 15):

The next three sentences = the gift of APOSTLESHIP
