Halloween Party Ideas For All Ages

Oct 1, 2024

Halloween party ideas for all ages begin to swirl around in my mind this time of year. Whether my spooky soirée is intimate—hosting only a few family members—or large—opening my door as the neighborhood hostess—these little details can elevate any Halloween party to the next level.

Halloween Party Ideas for all ages

Decor

This Halloween, I’ll be decorating with classic yet eerie floral pieces like this blackened baby’s breath and these eucalyptus stems. Velvet pumpkins and floating candles are sure to add a touch of whimsy to any halloween party.

Food

For tasty Halloween party ideas, I suggest a mixture of homemade items (like soups, sausage balls, chili, or a seasonal charcuterie board) alongside festive spider cookies. Serve cider or punch in these goblets for a seriously spooky vibe.

Activities

For more Halloween party ideas for all ages, try setting the scene with a kid-friendly Spotify playlist including songs like, “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell, “Call Me” by Blondie, and “Beat It” by Michael Jackson. Children will have a great time trick-or-treating, competing in a costume party, and playing floor tic tac toe with large cardboard cutouts and medium-sized pumpkins as game pieces. A fun option for teens and adults is to host your very own murder mystery dinner with this interactive game.

Party Favors

Party-goers will have plenty of candy so opt for a unique gift sure to put a smile on their faces, like these adorable ghost candles with decorative matchboxes for adults. Children will be happy with glow sticks and glow jewelry to trick-or-treat with.

Traditions

At the beginning of October, I set up a crepe paper maze from one wall to the next. This works best if you have a long hallway. The girls have to squeeze through the “spider web” without touching it (or the homemade spiders made from pipe cleaners) to reach the other side safely. It’s something they enjoy every single year.

Another tradition takes place after trick-or-treating. The girls spread Halloween candy on the rug in the living room and group them by favorites. They munch on a few pieces and so do Paul and I. Then we turn the lights off, turn the flashlights on, and tell our silliest ghost stories. We have a running joke that every year, Audri has included the phrase “blood jello” and she has to include it when it’s her turn from now on. Averi is still young so the stories aren’t scary—we just try to make each other laugh.

Browse these festive finds below, sure to create an ambience you’ll remember.
