Palo Duro Canyon

Mar 25, 2025

Palo Duro Canyon is where we introduced our daughters to the art of hiking. Audri hiked in South Lake Tahoe as a toddler, but I’m not sure she remembers those moments as vividly as I do. Now that she’s older, Paul and I decided to bring both girls along with us for an outdoor adventure. Palo Duro Canyon is family-friendly, with many small hikes and caves to explore. Along with investigating the caves, we hiked Kiowa trail, Triassic trail, and the Lighthouse trail. Averi shares my love of geology and so we stopped often to examine and research the gorgeous rocks surrounding us. For meals, we each carried day packs filled with food and enjoyed picnics along the way. We also traveled to the local downtown square to read and purchase books from the bookstore, as well as dine at Rockin’ Zebra and Joe’s Tacos. If you’re a Texas VF reader, this hidden world is worth spending a weekend exploring.
