Color Wheel Theory For Brown Eyes

Mar 12, 2025

It’s been awhile since I’ve written about my nontoxic makeup finds. So here’s what I’m discovering lately, particularly when it comes to using the color wheel theory for brown eyes. Because brown is the majority eye color of people everywhere, we have a lot of amazing beauty products to choose from! If you’re a brown-eyed beauty, you likely know that warm tones like bronze and gold compliment your eyes well. If you’re looking for something to take your eye color to the next level, let’s dive in…

Color Wheel Theory For Brown Eyes

This is a fun, unique way to discover which makeup products would look best on you. The instructions are simple:

1) Look in the mirror in natural lighting to find your true shade of brown.

For example, when I worked in my previous tech job, the company’s photographer was excited to tell me that I had central heterochromia. This means that the outer rings in my eyes are one color and the inner rings are different colors. I only notice the yellow and green hues when I look closely in a mirror in natural lighting.

2) Use the color wheel below to locate your specific brown shade to the best of your ability.

My shades range from the fourth color in the orange column to the fourth color in the yellow-orange column. If you have dark chocolate brown eyes, your color would likely be the fifth color in the orange column.

3) Now look to the exact opposite side of your brown shade on the color wheel. You’ve just found the best makeup colors to wear for a striking enhancement.

For example, the opposite column from my yellow-orange color is the blue-violet column. I’ve noticed that eye shadows and eye liners in these tones actually do make my eyes pop. For you, it might be the blue-green column. You’ll find that teal eye products make your eyes shine.

If you have beautiful dark brown eyes, I would recommend using a daily navy eye liner instead of a true black. Or a bronze eye liner paired with a brown mascara. If you really want your eyes to stand out, I suggest playing around with this gorgeous eye shadow palette. Shop my curated list of products below.
