Why Shopping at Local Bookstores Still Matters
Jul 7, 2026
You don’t have to be a voracious reader to enjoy shopping at your local bookstore. I’m not. I’m picky about what I read, because I believe in guarding my heart and my mind. What goes in, comes out…
I could spend hours browsing the shelves for the perfect new read—embracing quality over quantity. I like the art of being a reader, not just consuming. My books are not precious to me. They are beat up, tear-stained, and dog-eared. I circle words that I want to learn the definition of. I make notecards. I have my TBR list meticulously categorized. Reading is a process, not just something to get over with. I feel the same way about writing.
So a local bookstore offers something tangible, something an algorithm can’t: an experience! A regular coffee order at the cafe, a stationery section that I can’t help but touch, and aisles of books to wander through—feeling connected to something larger than myself. What are you currently reading? I’d love to hear all about it!
